Hi! My name is Kathleen Byrne. I struggled with reading as a child, and wish I would have had access to the Orton Gillingham reading method. I have been a tutor for six years, and am trained in Brainspring’s Orton-Gillingham Level I and II. I am also trained in Pre-K Orton Gillingham phonological awareness, vocabulary, and in multisensory reading comprehension strategies.
I am a virtual Pre-K - grade 12 reading specialist who provides personalized one on one tutoring through gamification. I specialize in dyslexia and reading challenges of all kinds. Each session will focus on learning phonics and reading comprehension through multisensory tools that are mailed to your house, free of charge. Let’s make reading like a day at the beach!

MY TUTORING APPROACH

MULTISENSORY
I will mail a curated kit of multisensory tools to each child for use during our sessions. Some tools include: play dough, sand, and pop-its.

I maintain a calm, positive, and patient demeanor throughout each session, as each child deserves a champion.

I utilize games to reinforce the skills we learn in each session. Learning can be fun!
A PEEK INTO INDIVIDUALIZED SESSIONS
Each session is virtual, 50 minutes in length, utilizing Zoom.
Sessions can be scheduled 1-3 times per week, based on need.
The first 2-3 sessions will be testing, in an interactive way, to learn your child’s specific needs.
Multisensory phonics based — touch, sight, movement, and hearing are all incorporated into each lesson.
Games reinforce skills.
Focus is on letters, sounds, phonological awareness, spelling rules, and reading comprehension.

WHAT IS ORTON GILLINGHAM?
Orton Gillingham is a research based structured, multisensory approach that has been successfully used for many years, primarily for students diagnosed with Dyslexia. More recently, the method has been proven to be effective for all readers. Orton Gillingham uses a step-by-step approach that combines letters and sounds to build the student’s reading confidence and fluency.
